Escape From Planet Earth pt. 1

Here are a few items from my time at Rainmaker Entertainment working on Escape. My tasks were varied while I covered a wide range of design tasks, so I wanted to show some favorites that came out of the production. Graphic design for the emergency self destruct sequence manual. Individual panel jokes initiated by the story/writing team. Prop designs for the local science exhibit. Some are a continuation of some awesome work by Armand Serrano Look development for the FX team (container not designed by myself) Wig design for Shanker (to get the ladies) A dangerous prop design that didn't make it (scene cut) All images are property of the Weinstein Company.

Escape From Planet Earth pt. 2

Here is some more Escape work - this time focusing on some of the graphic design. From 7-11 to artificial magazines to old star charts. Next post should have weapon designs and props - and I'll share some effects designs and misc. stuff too. I was pleasantly surprised with the variety of fun subjects to work with in an animated movie. How smart is Gary? One of the strangest things I'll ever get paid to draw. And no, Shanker was not modeled with a body under his clothing. Now I know how hard it is to put abs on super stylized proportions. Tiling texture for Kip's bed sheets - of his uncle Scorches ship Old background magazines. Star charts in Shanker's office Welcome home signs that didn't end up being used. Escape from Planet Earth pt.3

Continuing to dump some work here - looks like I'll have one more post after this one and then continue to painting progress and usual drawings. This is a geometry design for both the freezing guns and backpacks. Quite inspired by old fire department backpacks. Once modeling is started there is sometimes room for another detail/feedback pass. Here I've painted in all the features with notations as these will be close to camera in some shots Probably one of my favorite looking props in the movie - an aggressive, advanced jetpack Food fight! To help set up the set for a food disaster, I sketched many prop arrangements which would be populated by the modeling team in the set.
